Steady Strides of Progress
The school incepted on 6th June 1988 with the humble origin of a small hut and 8 students has now scaled a greater height in all aspects. Now the strength is above 8000.
In the initial stage, Dr Sethu Kumanan, the Correspondent of this institution has played the role of not only the principal, but also a teacher, driver, conductor…etc. His clear-headed strategy, well-structured move and tireless effort underlay the growth of the institution. Mr.Sethu Bhaskaran , the founder of the institution and Pulavar Sethu gave an impetus for the institution’s upward mobility.

The Japanese educationist and philosopher
Dr Daisaku Ikeda, the Japanese Educationist and philosopher is the Founder of Soka University, Tokyo, Japan and Los Angeles. He is also the President of Soka Gakkai International. His principles are similar to that of the Father of our Nation. The Correspondent Dr Sethu Kumanan was impressed with his philosophy. So, he has adopted him as his mentor. One of our school blocks is named after his mentor.

With due reverence, the school attributes its growth and progress to its esteemed Founder Late Mr. Sethu Bhaskaran. The Sethu Valliammal Educational Trust founded by him, has mushroomed into Sethu Bhaskara Matric. Hr. Sec. School , Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science for Women in Chennai, Sethu Irani Matric. Hr. Sec. School, Sethu Bhaskara Industrial Training Centre in Kandaramanickam and Sethu Bhaskara Agricultural College and Research Foundation near Karaikudi. All these institutions echo his name even after his demise. His service to the society still continues to resonate in all our institutions.

His desire to serve the society stems from the inspiration from his father
Dr Sethu Kumanan hailing from a hamlet called Kandaramanickam, Sivagangai District, the son, of a very great and humane teacher Pulavar Mr. K R Sethu, a legend on his own, has graduated from Raja Duraisingam Memorial College and pursued his higher studies in Annamalai University. His passion for teaching has set the stage for becoming an educationist.
Being a versatile genius, he has produced many short films like “Veeramangai Velunachiar”, a short-episode on the brave historical woman and “Ellaiyilla Paarvai”(Vision beyond boundaries). These films infuse values in the younger generation. The short film entitled “Kadavulai Kanden” (Seeing God) - a real story of a Sethu Bhaskara School student and “Bimbam” (Reflection) - highlight the children’s responsibility to look after their parents in their old age. The film entitled “Kalviyin Kaimaru” (The benefits of education) inculcates the humane quality of compassion in the mind of an individual.
Our Correspondent is the recipient of several awards such as:

- Soka University degree of Doctor, Honoris Causa.
- The Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature (Litt.D.) conferred by the World Academy of Arts & Culture at the XVII World Congress of Poets in Seoul, Korea.
- Soka Gakuen Award of Highest Honour by Soka Gakuen, Japan.
- The Soka University Award of Education and Culture by Soka University Student & University Student Union.
- Michael Madhusudan Award – The Best Honour for Noble Creation by Michael Madhusudan Academy, Kolkata.
- Rashtriya Rattan Award by Global Economic Council, New Delhi, Ramachandran-Ikeda Award by The Indian Council of Gandhian Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala in appreciation of his noble work in the line of education – with a cash award of Rs. 50,000/-.
- Vallal Pandithurai Virudhu – The Best Educationist Award by Murugalayam (Regd.) during the 23rd Anniversary in commemoration of 135th Anniversary of Vallal Pandithurai.
- The prestigious “Seva Rathna Award” by the World Friendship Council-Voluntary Social Service Organization, for his service to humanity through education.
- Maxim Gorky Award presented by the Indo-Russian, International Arts & Science Association for Life Time contribution to Education.
- He has written many books including Malaysia Manimakudam, Idhayathul Israel, Masakthi Ikeda, Mexicovil Tamil Kavidaigal and Petra – A travelogue on Jordan and a compilation of photographs.
